Tessellate was formed in 2016 by Toronto multi-instrumentalist and composer Brenden Varty. This group focuses on performing original compositions by the members of the band, cultivating an environment where group interplay and personal expression complement each other in equal measure.

With repertoire ranging from works in the standard jazz repertoire to more free interpretations of jazz, each performance by Tessellate is centred around spontaneous musical conversation between the group members.

The group consists of Brenden Varty (U of T Master’s student and Humber graduate) on woodwinds, and Calgary musicians Augustine Yates, Jonathan Wielebnowski, and Jacob Wutzke (all from Humber) on piano, bass, and drums respectively.
