Matys Colpron

Matys Colpron is a Montreal-based drummer and composer who presents his original music with up-and-coming Montreal musicians. His contemporary jazz compositions are complex, a reflection of the composer's eclectic influences. Influenced by his own background, growing up in a family of baroque musicians, later studying jazz drumming and working in a variety of styles. Tragédie is a reflection of his artistic personality put into musical experience. Matys Colpron and his ensemble are at a turning point in the Montreal jazz scene. Representing a new generation and a fresh take on the genre. The artist wears his influences strongly and presents a unique blend of genres that not only put forward his compositions, but the talent of his band members. Born from a family of Baroque musicians, Matys Colpron's recent project, Tragédie presents its atmosphere through vivid imagery and classical undertones. To present jazz as a voice of freedom piercing through historical oppression.
