Karl Silveira Quintet
Karl Silveira, hailing from Toronto, is an accomplished trombonist who earned a Juno Nomination as a member of the Lemon Bucket Orkestra in 2013. He holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field. Karl's passion for jazz and music innovation led him to the prestigious Banff Jazz and Creative Music Workshop in 2008. His musical journey has been marked by his involvement in several notable ensembles, including the Sam Kirmayer Sextet, the Alex Dean Quintet, the Alex Brown Sextet, the Harley Card Sunset Ensemble, and the Noam Lemish Tentet. He has also contributed his talents to the David Braid Sextet and the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra, in addition to recording with the Hilario Duran Jazz Orchestra. Karl's versatility as a sideman in the jazz realm shines brightly, with collaborations alongside esteemed musicians such as Clark Terry, Ben Monder, Ingrid Jensen, Jazzmeia Horn, Jens Lindemann, Paquito D'Rivera, Jackie Richardson, Ira Coleman, Neil Swainson, Robi Botos, and many others. Beyond jazz, he boasts a rich history of exploring diverse genres, including Eastern European Folk Music and Roma traditions. His portfolio includes performances and recordings with award-winning groups like the Juno Award-winning Lemonbucket Orkestra and the Canadian Folk Music Award-winning Boxcar Boys. Karl remains in demand for his ability to contribute to a wide spectrum of world music. Not confined to his role as a trombonist, Karl is also a talented composer, bandleader, and educator. His debut album, "A Porta Aperta," has garnered acclaim from critics and enjoys extensive radio airplay. Furthermore, Karl shares his musical knowledge and passion as an applied teacher in the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, where he has been an influential presence since 2019.
