The Christopher Parnis Quintet comes out of a strong history of adventurous improvised music in Canada, with a debut full-length album of original compositions scheduled for late 2023. Conceived in the spirit of Kenny Wheeler's small group writing, the band straddles the line between sentimental and thrilling with a live show that ranges from soft ballads and free improvisation to breakbeat music.
The quintet has been performing in developing iterations since 2019 from festivals and concert series to prestigious Toronto venues like Jazz Bistro and features remarkable next generation players Christian Antonacci on trumpet and flugelhorn, Matt Greenwood on electric guitar, Aaron Blewett on drums, and
bandleader/composer/arranger Christopher Parnis on double bass as well as the great Brian Dickinson on piano bringing history and depth to the songs. "The music is hauntingly beautiful." -Don Thompson.
