CHANNELL: The Global Jazz Ensemble

Holly Channell is an American drummer, musician, educator and composer. Versatile, Holly plays everything from Straight Ahead Jazz to Pop and Rock. Holly’s sound steers from the straight ahead jazz tradition, but is influenced heavily from the 90’s and early 2000’s alternative sounds she grew up listening to. Finding her voice, she resonates heavily with drummers such as Roy Haynes, Max Roach and Elvin Jones, but also appreciates the sounds from the late Taylor Hawkins, Jeff Porcaro, and Nirvana’s Dave Grohl. Holly Received a Master in Jazz Performance from Arizona State and a Masters in Global Jazz from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, graduating from both with Distinction. She recently released her Critically Acclaimed Debut Jazz Album “Not Just a Standard” with Fresh Sound Records and is set to leave on her US tour January-May 2025 starting in Panama at the Panama Jazz Festival. In 2023, Holly was Recognized and awarded as a Sister in Jazz with the Jazz Education Network. A long time student of Lewis Nash, in her early career she was also able to learn, play and create mentorships with Kobie Watkins, Benny Green, Roxy Coss, Jason Palmer, Wycliffe Gordon and many others. At Berklee Global Jazz Institute Holly worked heavily with Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Jerry Leake, Tony Malaby, Ron Savage, Brian Blade, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tia Fuller and Yoron Israel. Along with touring in big bands, symphony orchestras as a percussionist, and with her own projects, she has also worked as a pit musician on different off-broad productions, including the Critically Acclaimed Hello Girls. Holly teaches privately and in higher education while performing with musicians from around the world.
