Noah Abrahamse is an accomplished Toronto-based alto saxophonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader whose music seamlessly bridges the worlds of jazz and traditional Cuban rhythms. Known for his full-blooded tone, vibrant improvisational style, and deep musical intellect, Abrahamse has quickly established himself as a prominent voice in Canada’s contemporary global jazz landscape.

He fronts Noah Abrahamse & The Mumbo Jumbo Combo, a tight-knit, high-energy ensemble that brings a soulful, authentic energy to the stage. Guided by a core philosophy that prioritizes heavy groove and live musical conversation, the group explores the rich rhythmic tapestries of son, danzón, mambo, salsa, and cha-cha-chá, infusing them with the harmonic sophistication of the jazz tradition.

Abrahamse’s artistic evolution is rooted in rigorous training and world-class mentorship. He holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from Humber College’s prestigious jazz program, where his exceptional musicianship earned him the Kenny McLean Memorial Scholarship twice. His profound connection to Afro-Cuban music was solidified under the guidance of the legendary master pianist and composer Hilario Durán, who has lauded Abrahamse as an outstanding talent destined for great things.

This deep respect for the roots of the music shines brightly in his recorded work. Following a critically acclaimed, self-titled debut EP dedicated to Durán, Abrahamse released his first full-length studio album, Días Latinos. The record features a brilliant array of original compositions and arrangements, spanning from intimate seven-piece formats to expansive big-band configurations, and includes collaborations with Canadian jazz mainstays such as vocalist and JazzFM91 host Laura Fernandez, flutist Bill McBirnie, bassist Duncan Hopkins, and percussionist Joaquín Núñez Hidalgo.

Building on the momentum of his studio success, Abrahamse recently received a grant from the Ontario Arts Council to fund the creation of his next project. Slated for release soon, this highly anticipated new album, titled El Holandés en la Habana, will showcase a fresh collection of his original compositions and dynamic arrangements, further expanding his latin jazz repertoire.

When he isn't performing at premier regional festivals, tracking in the studio, or playing notable GTA venues, Abrahamse is a dedicated elementary school teacher and community mentor, passionate about passing on the complexities and joy of music to the next generation.
